Watched it last: July 19
Released last: September 2011
Why I watched it: Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, the funny pair on The Bridesmaids. Turns out they only played support in this one. Haha!
Given the cast, I actually thought it was more of a comedy than a romcom. But as the movie progressed, my initial disappointment from the nature of the story turned into surprised interest.
The lead pair is not your typical Hollywood romcom pair who banks more on looks than talent. But I think the screenplay made the chemistry happen for the cast.
It truly had an orthodox plot but if you think about it, it had a valid basis. When friends get married and start their own family, they will really have less time for their friends, whether everyone intends to or not. It sucks the most when you’re the friend who somehow gets “left out”. Of course, it is no one’s fault nor liking, but it sucks just the same. Finding “the one” is really about finding the one with whom you would want to build your own family, your own future life. Sometimes, it takes a while. Sometimes, it is actually there right under your nose. This is a theme that totally resonates with me. Haha!
Critical Reception: 64% on Rotten Tomatoes
I’d rate it around: 71%. Hardly any cringe-worthy cheese on this one.
_______________
As I did in 2011, I am listing down the movies I watch for 2012, along with my comment about each viewing experience. These movie pseudo-review/commentaries are hardly scientific. There might be days that I might be more tolerant of crappy movies and so I might find myself going easy on the critique. More so, my "critiques" are hardly theoretical because I admit I have not taken any proper film critiquing classes, haha! I most usually lash out "in the moment". I try to be as objective as possible, but know that we all have our own different tastes when it comes to films.
