Released last: August 2012
Why I watched it: Christmas is the season of reunions! Haha! I shamelessly admit that this movie’s trailer caught my attention back in August. But not enough to actually watch it in the big screen, haha! Hint hint.
As expected, the Eraserheads’ most popular songs were written into the movie’s story. They weren’t performed by the characters, like say in a musical. But they were featured prominently via background music and musical scoring. Heck, many of the characters like Ligaya, Toyang and Aling Nena will definitely ring a bell.
Story-wise, I wasn’t buying it because personally, I don’t think trying to rekindle the wonders of the past will solve the problems of the present. In the real world, grown up and matured people will definitely not agree that it is even remotely a sensible idea. But yeah, the crazy premise makes a fund adventure as the lead characters take a trip down memory lane (literally and figuratively) and try to make right by the people they have wronged before. And somehow, that is where the heart of the movie lies.
The character backgrounds of the leads were haphazardly tackled in the beginning. As if the movie just wanted us to believe that its characters were so just because it said so. I wish they allocated just a few more scenes for this so that we would truly feel that we know the leads and really root for them.
And yeah, high school reunions really inadvertently force us to rethink our existence, huh? Haha. That’s why I am weary of them.
Critical Reception: “B” by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
I’d rate it around: 76%. The bit about how the light of the stars is actually delayed correlated with the fact that sometimes it takes time for us to realize something worthwhile even if it was right in front of our faces the whole time – yeah, I kinda liked that. Haha!

As I did in 2011, I am listing down the movies I watch for 2012, along with my comment about each viewing experience. These movie pseudo-review/commentaries are hardly scientific. There might be days that I might be more tolerant of crappy movies and so I might find myself going easy on the critique. More so, my "critiques" are hardly theoretical because I admit I have not taken any proper film critiquing classes, haha! I most usually lash out "in the moment". I try to be as objective as possible, but know that we all have our own different tastes when it comes to films.
