Movie #42 - Batman Begins

Watched it last: July 11
Released last: June 2005
Why I watched it: The company will hold a movie night for The Dark Knight Rises. Even though friends said I wouldn’t get lost even as I haven’t watched the first 2 Batman movies, I wanted to anyway.

Back then, the movie got super great reviews but I never got to watching it because Batman didn’t really interest me. Haha! This is quite ironic because I used to watch Batman when its cartoon version aired on Friday nights on Channel 2. I just don’t know why I was nonchalant about it.

I obviously had high expectations when I watched it. But in the end, I was scratching my head. Haha! Yeah, it had the usual superhero action elements, but for me, it wasn’t THAT good. As a lead-in for what would be 2 more movies, it delivered when it comes to character development and in setting up the themes the trilogy wanted to explore and emphasize on. But as a stand-alone flick, I just wasn’t buying it.

The theme was too deep than I would have wanted it to be – which is probably why I am not endeared to Batman as I am with other superhero characters. He’s awesome as a hero, I give him that. But as a person, he’s quite too “dark” for my taste. Haha! And if you think about it, he is actually a spoiled brat. And emo spoiled brat at that! If I chance a person like that in real life, I am automatically turned off.

Katie Holmes sucked big time on this movie. She totally deserved the Razzie nomination.

Critical Reception: 85% on Rotten Tomatoes
I’d rate it around: 58%. I didn’t actually hate it, but I certainly do not get the overrated hype.
_______________
As I did in 2011, I am listing down the movies I watch for 2012, along with my comment about each viewing experience. These movie pseudo-review/commentaries are hardly scientific. There might be days that I might be more tolerant of crappy movies and so I might find myself going easy on the critique. More so, my "critiques" are hardly theoretical because I admit I have not taken any proper film critiquing classes, haha! I most usually lash out "in the moment". I try to be as objective as possible, but know that we all have our own different tastes when it comes to films.
