So for 2012, aside from providing mostly random comments on each movie I watch, I actually decided to give them an actual rating. The criteria were hardly technical or scientific at all. Of course I considered the usual aspects like acting and screenplay, but for the most part, what is most important for the casual viewer like me is that I was entertained.
And so, for 2012, below is the list of my 20 favorite films. Note that these weren’t necessarily released in 2012, it’s just that I was able to watch them the past calendar year.

*It's definitely a mixed bag, I must say. Not too many romcoms, as I would normally expect. But then again, they are seldom really THAT good. I may have watched a lot of them, but they won't make my favorite list. The only romcom in my Top 10 is not even from Hollywood -- it's from Thailand!
*I wish they would make more Filipino musicals. We have many talented singers after all.
*Notice that the four superhero/adventure blockbusters of the year are in my Top 10, but trust me, box office results is not in my criteria, haha! I did just really enjoyed those movies.
*If you care to wonder, my Top 3 favorites are "The Help", "The Ides of March" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". "The Help" had the most heart, "The Ides of March" was most bad-ass while the mere presence of Emma Watson in "The Perks" was more than enough. Hahaha! Talk about objectivity, huh?
*And yep, I really am a John Lloyd Cruz fan. Haha!
*Favorite life lesson quote: Secrets have cost. They're not free. Not now, not ever. said by Aunt May in "The Amazing Spider-Man"
*Favorite love lesson quote, from "The Perks of Being a Wallflower":
Charlie: Why do nice people choose the wrong people to date?
Bill: Are we talking about anyone specific?
(Charlie nods)
Bill: We accept the love we think we deserve.
Charlie: Can we make them know they deserve more?
Bill: We can try.
And indeed we can try. Sana lang mag-cooperate sila, 'di ba.
