Something Stupid

"Magpapakatanga ka na rin lang, you might as well be smart about it diba?"

My good friend James actually said this during one of our quarterly kaffeeklatsch. We were talking about a common friend who let’s just say did something “stupid” and such deed resulted to a major consequence that cannot be simply forgotten and charged to experience. And this particular “consequence” could’ve been prevented if our common friend was “smart about it”. Haha! I know his statement reeks of contradiction but if you actually knew what we were talking about, you’ll get what James meant.

We’ve laughed at the humorous irony of his word for hours but now that the day is about to be over, I got to thinking about my own stupid actions in the past.
Remember that final question that Venus Raj had to answer in the Miss Universe pageant? Would you have answered along the same lines as she did? Have you not made any “major, major” mistake in your life?

Well, I have. It’s no secret to people close to me. I wish I could’ve taken my studies in UP more seriously. Life would be so much different now if I had done so. It’s really one of the worst regrets of my life. It was a stupid decision that actually didn’t happen overnight but in a long series of moments wherein I didn’t have my priorities right.

But I’ve decided not to dwell on it. I made the most out of that path that I wrought upon myself. Considering where and what I am now, I can humbly but confidently say that I’ve made up for my mistakes for the most part, haha!

In hindsight, I realize that my major stupid mistake had a major consequence to my future but the chance for redemption was also quite there. For that, I really consider myself lucky. I say this because in my book, the same chance is not always given – especially to certain “major stupid” mistakes. While I do believe that we should find it in our hearts to be able to forgive any great wrongdoing to us, some transgressions must not be forgotten.

Katangahan na lang talaga kapag pinaulit mo pa. As in rurok. At the top of my mind – infidelity. Done twice and without remorse.

How about you? What for you are the kind of mistakes that can be forgiven but must never be forgotten?
